Hi coaches!
It’s been a little over 3 months since we capped off the 2023-2024 season with more Middle School Esports Leagues trophies, plaques, and medals, than ever before in our past. Now, it’s my pleasure to welcome you all to the Fall 2024 season! If you haven’t yet, I encourage you to read our “What You Need to Know” article for this fall.
So, what else is new?
New Middle School Esports Professional Learning with NAECAD
We’ve partnered with the National Association of Esports Coaches and Directors (NAECAD) to improve access to professional development for esports coaches. All HSEL and MSEL schools are eligible for discounted NAECAD memberships, and NAECAD will periodically host free professional development sessions for our coaches. The first session is on October 15th! (Register here)
Rule Updates
Every summer, we review the rulebook from top to bottom. This school year, the majority of the changes were made for clarity and concision, but we still encourage all coaches to review the appropriate rulesets with their players before queuing. There is one specific update our team would like to highlight here as we begin official season matches:
Rule 3.1.1. Queueing and being prepared for your match.
Your time is valuable, and you only have so much of it! This rule aims to encourage schools to be fully prepared for competition before they engage with our queue system and receive an opponent. In essence, queueing demonstrates both intent and readiness to participate in a match.
Looking Ahead
We’re excited to see schools adopting Thursday’s different way to play, Crew Battles. Then, in the spring, Minecraft will switch to 4v4 Bed Wars. Make sure you check out the yearly calendar and stay up to date with our email newsletters!
In closing, I want to express how grateful I am that you have chosen to be a part of our MSEL community. It means the world to the entire Generation Esports staff of gamers and former educators!

Commissioner of Competition
HSEL, MSEL, & Youth Winner's Circle
"In esports, I found my community AND my competitive spirit. I’m so thankful for the privilege I had in school where I was able to explore my musical passion, and I want to play a role providing that same opportunity to the students now, tomorrow, and forever. I want to give students a reason to come to school, just like I had."
